I am lucky enough to be the EAST Facilitator at Sonora Elementary. I help facilitate 100+ students to use really advanced technology in our local community.
EAST Mission - EAST allows students to grow and learn based on their interests and real world experience. The student is responsible for their learning, which means they are taking ownership of what they are doing, and must conceptualize what they will be doing. They experience every aspect of project management, from brainstorming, to role assignment, and getting credit for what they have done. Their ideas must meet certain criteria. They must take into consideration who will this benefit, what kind of technology will they use, is it legal and ethical, and most important is it innovative. After the students have answered these questions, they work as project teams to accomplish their goals. The students must put together project proposals and timelines, and then present them to the Facilitator. The main emphasis in approving a project is “Will the student grow?” EAST is a different - students have more freedom on what they learn and how they learn; EAST gives students that opportunity.
